Having an Environmentally Friendly Christmas

Tuesday, 09 September 2008

If you care about the environment there are many things you can do to protect it during the Christmas holiday. These things include the type of tree you use to decorate, the gifts you give, and more.

When you decorate for the holiday the best thing you can do is consider using artificial Christmas trees. These trees you can use over and over. You will never have to buy a new tree again. These trees are perfect because they look just like a real tree. They also come in many different varieties such as prelit Christmas trees and predecorated if you like. This is the best way to give back to your environment because millions of trees are cut down every year for this one special day on the calendar. If the trees are not coming from a tree farm and being cut in the wild it will take years and years for these trees to be replaced.

When you give gifts this year there are many things you can do. When everyone is out and about shopping they are wasting gas and emitting fumes into the environment. This includes when you are out to buy your Christmas tree and when you are out buying gifts. People drive around for hours looking for right gift for people. The best thing you can do is plan your shopping with friends you are not buying for. You can all drive together. Carpooling is the best idea when you are out shopping. This will save all of you money on gas and help with the environment.

The types of gifts you buy this year can be environmentally friendly also. Some people like to give gift certificates. Gift certificates are an excellent way to go easy on the environment because you are not receiving a plastic bag for every one you buy. However, there is a down side to purchasing gift cards. When someone receives a gift card it means that you put absolutely no thought into the gift whatsoever. It is an impersonal gift and you should never give to someone you care about.

An environmentally friendly gift that you can give is an acre of the rainforest or of natural lands. The receiver of the gift will receive the deed to the rainforest land you buy and it will be considered a collectible. They will also receive a picture of the land and an information packet regarding the land that is being supported. There are other types of land you can purchase which include nature trails and sides of the highway. This is a great way to support maintaining and protecting certain areas. The great thing about gifts like this is that it is common for the government to put up a plaque with your friend’s name on it to recognize their support. This is a fun gift to give and your friend will be very excited there is a sign up with their name.

There are many things you can do if you want to have an environmentally friendly Christmas. Waste will be happening all around you but it will give you a good feeling to know you are saving your environment this year.

Tips for Christmas Caroling this Year

Saturday, 08 August 2008

If you plan on going Christmas caroling this year there are several things you can do to plan a better night for you and all of your friends. These things include dressing appropriately, the songs, and knowing the route you are going to travel on.

When you Christmas carol it is important to dress appropriately. You should have proper shoes on because you will be on your feet for several hours. You want to be sure your shoes are comfortable to walk on but you also want to be sure they will provide plenty of warmth. If you go to homes with snow in the yard you also want to be sure your shoes are waterproof. You will be miserable if your feet get wet and susceptible to getting frostbite on your toes.

The clothes you wear should also be appropriate. You need to be sure you have warm clothes on and a good jacket. Also bring a hat and gloves. You cannot keep your hands in your pockets while you are Christmas caroling because you might need to carry a candle or a light source of some sort. Warmth is the most important thing when you go caroling. You will be able to enjoy your time with your friends singing and the lights shining brightly on everyone’s artificial Christmas trees.

When you go caroling for the holiday you also need to be sure you choose songs that everyone knows. This might take some planning. Everyone who wants to go caroling needs to agree on the songs. It might be a good idea to print the words out to the songs so you sound good together while you are singing. You don’t want people to hear you coming and see the lights to their Christmas trees go off and around their house. This will mean they don’t want you to come over. Be sure you know the words so you don’t sound like a mess.

When you go caroling it is also important to choose a variety of songs too. It would be silly to sing the same song over and over. The best way to do it is to have about ten different songs you can sing so you have a good variety. If you sing the same thing over and over it might make for a dull evening. Although, you and your friends are all having a great time you don’t want to get bored because you are singing the same songs.

The most important thing when you go Christmas caroling is to have a plan of your route. You need to know all of the homes you plan on going to. You might start at the home with the artificial Christmas trees out front and you might want to end at the same place. You might try mapping out a loop from your home so everyone can arrive there and then you can begin together.

There are many considerations you should have when you go caroling at Christmas. Be sure you are dressed appropriately, you choose the right songs, and you know the route you are going to travel on so you and your group doesn’t get lost.
